Breastfeeding: The Best that you can do for your Baby

In recent times, breastfeeding has fortunately and rightly regained its importance, after being irresponsibly ignored in favor of unfounded logic. This re-visiting of an age-old wisdom and breastfeedingunderstanding is a god-send to mankind. Breastfeed your baby; there is nothing better than this that you can do to your baby.

Just before the last two decades, people had wrong notions about breastfeeding. A vast majority of lactating mothers felt breastfeeding was detrimental to their looks. Bottle-feeding became an alternative to breastfeeding.

Doctors hardly paid attention to the impact of this trend on babies’ health. No advice was coming forth from the experts on the need to breastfeed. In the situation, breastfeeding was seen as old-fashioned, to be shunned in the light of modernity. What remained un-thought of by all concerned was that these notions were unfounded and false.

Fortunately, the situation has changed in the last twenty years. Doctors have understood the importance of breastfeeding. A lot of campaigning favoring breastfeeding has been happening. Mothers think positively; they realize how blissful it is to breastfeed their babies. They know that mother’s milk has no substitute. Every mother knows that her baby’s healthy development is primarily dependent on mother’s milk.

There is awareness in people that mother’s milk supplies the baby a balance of nourishing nutrients that is vital for the efficient functioning of the brain and maintaining the overall health of the body system. This will also ensure optimized growth and development, giving the baby an effective immune system.

Another magical consequence of breastfeeding is the inexplicable bond that develops between the mother and the baby. It is an event managed by Nature. The moments of feeding her child is the most blissful time that a mother experiences. It is the time when the mother and the baby will have the most personal moments. Both of them engage in tacit conversation without even overtly understanding what transpires.

The influences of breastfeeding process are many. When the mother does not breastfeed her baby, she experiences unbearable pain in the breast. This is because not feeding the baby is an upset that we cause in nature’s ways of doing things. After feeding the baby, the mother feels so fulfilled that she involuntarily rocks her baby to sleep. She experiences bliss as she watches her innocent, divinely sweet baby doll sleeping off even while being fed. That feeling can only be experienced by a mother.

Sometimes, a mother experiences pains and problems in breastfeeding. The baby not latching the nipple properly or sore and burning nipples, or mastitis are common problems. These can be overcome by the mother by learning a few breastfeeding techniques.

Mastitis is a problem of milk storing up in the mother’s body system. In such cases, it is advisable to consult a doctor for appropriate treatment. As a home remedy, a warm bath can help alleviate the pain in swollen breasts or nipples.

In most babies latching is instinctive. But, in some babies an improper latching pains the mother. Again, consult a lactation specialist who can help you with the problem.

Breastfeeding is good both for the baby and the mother. Mothers breastfeeding for at least six months, are less likely to be affected by breast cancer, ovarian cancer or other kinds of cancer. Breastfeeding will also help in the process of the mother’s uterus contracting to the pre-delivery size.
